    • Let yourself be carried away by the richness and beauty of an exceptional Gallo-Roman treasure from the 3rd century AD. Made up of 28,054 coins, around fifty jewels and precious objects, it is one of the most important treasures found in France. The tour of the museum's collections invites you to dive into Antiquity: statues, architectural decorations, objects restored in their context tell you about life in the ancient city of Elusa some 2000 years ago.

The Archaeological Museum/The Treasure of Eauze is part of ELUSA Ancient Capital. An unmissable and unique set of 3 exceptional sites : young and old are invited to come and discover the secret of the aristocratic residences, within the territory of the ancient city of Elusa. The Domus de Cieutat (town house) offers an essential complement to the visit of the Villa de Séviac (country house) , while the rich collections of the Archaeological Museum/The Treasure of Eauze (Museum of France) illustrate its refinement.

To begin your visit, go to the ELUSA Ancient Capital interpretation center at the Domus de Cieutat. Gateway to Elusa's heritage, this space will allow you to discover the scale of the ancient city through a modern and playful scenography.

Superb little museum with a nice collection of exhibits going back to the Paleolithic. Undoubtely though the star attraction is the Treasure of Eauze. Discovered during an archaeological dig in 1985 it is an astonishing collection of 28000 coins, jewelery and precious objects hidden in sacks weighing 120kg. One can but marvel and wonder what the story was, how this enormous treasure came to be buried and forgotten. Perhaps it was stolen, but the thief died in a tavern. Perhaps it was buried by a rich family fleeing for their lives. Maybe a miser collected it but his will was lost.

Not far from the cathedral you will find this museum (previously a bank with a big vault) ; the biggest roman coins treasury found in the country is there.

Highlight was seeing the 28,000 coins on display in almost mint condition. Never seen anything like it. Definitely worth a visit.
