    • Caumont Castle, classified as a historic monument, is the largest castle in the Gers
The Château de Caumont is a listed historic Renaissance monument restored by generations of passionate owners. It is located 35 minutes from Toulouse, in the heart of a 50 hectare wooded property.
The Castle is made up of two buildings:

      • The old castle built on the site of a fortified castle that belonged to Gaston Phébus; it is the oldest part, with a more typically medieval architecture, dating from the 15th century. It is what remains of the original fortified castle. This part now covers the reception rooms and the boutique reception.
      • And the current Renaissance castle whose construction lasted from 1525 to 1535. This building owes its nickname “Castle of the Loire in Gascony” to its very particular architecture, emblematic of the castles of the Loire. Indeed, this Renaissance jewel was built by Pierre de Nogaret de La Valette on his return from the Italian wars which he fought with Francis I, drawing inspiration from the Italian Renaissance.

Caumont saw the birth of Jean-Louis de Nogaret de la Valete in 1554, who became Duke of Epernon by the grace of Henry III whom he served before Henry IV and Louis XIII. He embellished Caumont who became a witness to his power. Henri IV came to visit him several times and the room in which he slept has been preserved. Caumont has also perpetuated this tradition of welcoming sovereigns by receiving a visit from the Queen of England, Queen Mum, in 1988.
In addition to private events (weddings, seminars, filming), numerous events open to the public are organized in Caumont all year round: concerts, conferences, flea markets, historical events, look at our site, there is something for everyone!

Château de Caumont is gorgeous and visible from the main road. Hopefully next time passing by we will be able to have a closer look.

An interesting tour of a somewhat sad shadow of what must have been a 'great chateau' up to the last century. See the rooms where kings and queens visited during the heyday of the chateau. Lots of other things to see including the kitchen in the basement where you can see the different ways that they used to cook.
