In its museums, the Gers reveals its treasures to you! You will find the remains of the golden age of this rural area in the 12th century. Crossed by the "Ways of Saint-Jacques-de-Compostelle", it has a very dense religious heritage. Terres de Gascogne and terroir of Armagnac, it is a land of plenty that has been very coveted, where powerful and rich families have settled. All this splendor of yesteryear has left behind beautiful objects, works of art and rich furnishings. It is also the birthplace of the “Compagnie des cadets de Gascogne”, with its history and traditions, which have inspired many artists. Museums on History and ancient ways of life

The history of a region forges its character… Knowing the major events and anecdotes of the past will allow you to better understand the identity of this territory. Visiting museums and some emblematic places is an immersive experience to penetrate the heart of the country!

  • Archeology Museum, in Lectoure: In the former Palace of the Bishops, this museum contains beautiful objects from the Gallic and medieval period. His collection of altars of worship "taurobolic" the 2nd and 3rd centuries is particularly noteworthy.
  • Domus de Cieutat, in Eauze: In ancient capital of Elusa, you enter a "domus", the house of Gallo-Roman, a notable of the 4th century.   • History of costume, in Valence-sur-Baïse: It is the world of entertainment that you discover through its most beautiful costumes.
  • Musée du Paysan Gascon in Toujouse: This lively, lively and friendly space offers you everything that makes up the rural world and peasant life to get back in touch with nature.
  • Peasant Museum Emile Simorre: Another museum to learn about the lives of Gascon peasants in the 20th century.
  • Musée d'Artagnan, in Lupiac: In the birthplace of the famous d'Artagnan, this space reveals everything about this atypical and emblematic character. Museums on the local environment

Museums on the life and trades of yesteryear, customs and traditions, everyday objects or activities, the environment and nature, such as ecomuseums, will allow you to get into the atmosphere of the culture of this territory.

  • Ecocentre Pierre et Terre, in Riscle: This center makes the public aware of citizen and ecological alternatives.
  • Maison de l'eau, in Jû-Belloc: In a natural site, many activities are offered on the environment and water management.

Art in all its forms

The Gers has a long history, a magnificent environment and authentic inhabitants. This particular atmosphere has inspired many artists. These free souls have expressed themselves a lot in the Gers for our greatest happiness. You will take full eyes!

  • Eauze Treasury Museum: This museum brings together the exceptional collection of objects found in Eauze, on the archaeological site of the former Gallo-Roman capital Elusa.
  • Museum of Fine Arts, in Mirande: Paintings, earthenware and ceramics from different European schools are exhibited there.
  • Center for Art and Photography, in Lectoure: It is an artist's residence and a contemporary art museum, mainly focused on photography . It offers many exhibitions and events, including a famous photography festival in Lectoure.
  • Espace Saint-Michel, in Condom: It is a meeting place for art lovers, a space for the expression and dissemination of contemporary art in all its forms.
  • Museum of the artist, in Vic-Fezensac: You enter a "house-work of art", built, decorated and furnished by the artist, who welcomes you in his exhibition space, accommodates you and makes you taste local products, to live a real immersive experience in his universe.
  • European Museum of Campanaire Art, in Isle-Jourdain: A temple of the bell! From large church bells to small bells, with a special place given to the Carillon de la Bastille, from foundry to watchmaking, this bell-tower art museum covers the question.
  • Sacred Art Museum, in Lectoure: The Treasure of Lectoure Cathedral is presented to you.
  • Museum of Jazz Territories, in Marciac: Around the Marciac Jazz Festival, with big names on the bill and a cause: biodiversity.
  • Cathedral Treasury Museum, in Auch: The cathedral offers a collection of works from its treasury, but also from other surrounding churches.
  • Musée des Jacobins (or Musée des Amériques), in Auch: Here you will find the second largest collection of pre - Columbian art objects in France.

One last essential category in the Gers: gastronomy of course! This land is rich in local specialties, the typical dishes are particularly delicious and the welcome is genuine.

  • Ecomusée de l'Armagnac, in Mauléon-d'Armagnac: From the work of the winegrower in the heart of the vineyard, to the still and the different distillation techniques, this museum makes you discover this local product, typical and ancestral of the region.
  • Wine and enotourism museum, in Lagajan: “From vine to wine” and “from still to oak barrels”, this museum explains how Côtes de Gascogne, Floc de Gascogne and Armagnacs are produced.
